Town ofHamilton Regular Monthly Board Meeting October 3, 2019 @ 7:001 PM Present: Commissioners: Ervin Williams, Mamie Staton, William Freeman, Larry Due to absence of Mayor Matthews, the meeting was conducted by Commissioner Call to order and prayer By Commissioner Williams. Pledge to flag by all. AI motion by Commissioner Everett to approve October 3, 2019 Meeting Agenda and motion was second by Commissioner Jackson. Motion carried 4-0 unanimously. September 12, 2019 minutes were read by the clerk and motion to approve minutes as read by Commissioner Everett with 2 corrections (which have been noted) and motion Old Business: Commissioner Freeman states the sinkhole on South and Railroad Streets has not been fixed yet. He reports the Town has replaced his ladder. Commissioner Williams state that Jeff Best, LLC accounting firm is gathering information to begin the New Business: Dr. Landon Mason, Executive Director of EIC, Inc.,) introduced himself and his staff. Mr. Mason gave very detailed information about the Economic Improvement Counsel, Inc Program and the operation of the Head Start Program at the Edna Andrews School. Mr. Mason thanked the Board for granting the use of the Edna Andrews School for the Head Start Program and that the Hamilton Community isa already benefiting because of their decision. Mr. Mason also thanked the Board for the opportunity to share the information with the Board and citizens. His report is filed with Citizen Report: Ms. Mary Greene expressed thanks to Mayor Matthews and Commissioner Everett for their many years of service to the Town of Hamilton and the Ms. Judith Stewart: Is problems with audits being addressed? Commissioner Williams Ms. Patricia Morning asks if Ball Park will be sprayed for fire ants before Dementia Walk and also Halloween trunk or treat on October 315, and could they have the building open for the trunk or treat night. Mr. Freeman states that Pastor Tommy Taylor has taken Jackson and Herbert L. Everett. Mayor Matthews was absent. Williams (mayor pro tem). second by Commissioner Jackson. Ms. Linda Goodrich states for the upcoming election it would be good for the candidates and Board members to have a meet and greet night October 10, 20197:00 PM at the Lynch Center. Ms. Goodrich was given permission to use the Lynch Center. Financial Report: Was reviewed by the Board and Profit and Loss section for the 3 funds will be put on the Town website. Commissioners' Report: Commissioner Staton: Nothing at this time. Commissioner Everett states the mayor received a letter from Ms. Carol Shields requesting permission to have goats put in back of the Rosenwald School to clear out the vegetation. The Board would like for Ms. Shields to come and explain her request with Commissioner Williams states he talked with Mr. John Autry of Suddenlink who will put together a packet (internet/cable) to present to the Board who is in agreement. Reading Center Library at Edna Andrews School is progressing and when open the operating hours will be Mondays 6-8:00 PM. Ms. Mattie Randolph states that Ms. Stephanie Alston of Sycamore Baptist has books to donate to the Library and will call if NC Works Ms. Jennie Bowen is willing to come in on Saturdays 9:00 AM-12 PM to help Public Power Day will be October 14, 2019 there will be refreshments and prizes given Mr. Brian McGinn contacted the Town for a list of citizens who would like to have Mr.Mike Hill NCRWA study showed that the Town water rates were not where they should be and his suggestion is that the rates should be raised. The Board need to have workshop and suggests that the Board choose a week in November or December 2019. No further business was discussed and a motion to adjourn meeting by Commissioner Everett and second by Commissioner Staton.
