TOWN OF GARLAND  SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ON PUBLIC HEARING FOR SPECIAL USE PERMITS  TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2021  6:30 PM  The Public Hearing for Special Use Permit Applications was held at the Garland Town Hall  on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 6:30 pm. The following were present virtually: Austin Brown, Mayor Pro Tem COMMISSIONERS: Eddie Bronson, Jr. Carolyn R. Melvin Barbara A. Peterson . Jo A. Strickland  Also present virtually was Annette Ricketson, Deputy Clerk.  CALL TO ORDER minutes. QUORUM quorum.  Mayor Pro Tem Austin Brown called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm and welcomed everyone in attendance. Deputy Clerk, Annette Ricketson, was present recording notes for the  Mayor Pro Tem Austin Brown and Deputy Clerk Annette Ricketson confirmed we have a  PUBLIC HEARING FOR RICO RICHARDSON  Mayor Pro Tem Austin Brown called for a motion to go into a Public Hearing for Rico Richardson. Commissioner Jo Strickland made the motion and Commissioner Barbara Peterson seconded the motion. All were in favor and the vote carried unanimously. The purpose of this Public Hearing for Rico Richardson is that he has applied for a Special Use Permit for the use of a storage building located at' 716 Gibbs Road, Garland NC 28441 to store his truck tires, supplies, etc. and to store his backhoe and equipment used for his trucking business. Said location is in the ETJ Zoning District. No public comments were made, and no comments made by the commissioners. Hearing none, Mayor Pro Tem. Austin Brown called for a motion to adjourn this Public Hearing. Commissioner Jo Strickland made a Motion to adjourn the Public Hearing for Rico Richardson and Commissioner Carolyn Melvin seconded  the motion. All were in favor and the vote carried unanimously.  1    PUBLIC HEARING FOR BARBARA AND JAMES PETERSON  Mayor Pro Tem Austin Brown entered into a Public Hearing for Barbara and James Peterson. The purpose of this Public Hearing for Barbara and James Peterson is that they have applied for a special use permit for the property located at 35 West Front Street, Garland NC 28441 to return this property to Residential Property. It is located in the General Business Zoning District. No public comments were made, and no comments were made by the commissioners. Hearing none, Mayor Pro Tem Austin Brown called for a motion to adjourn this Public Hearing. Commissioner Carolyn Melvin made a Motion to adjourn the Public Hearing for Barbara and James Peterson and Commissioner Jo Strickland seconded the  motion. All were in favor and the vote carried unanimously.  BOARD'S ACTION FOR RICO RICHARDSON  Mayor Pro Tem Austin Brown called for a motion on the ruling of the Special Use Permit Application for Rico Richardson. Commissioner Jo Strickland made a motion to approve the application for Rico Richardson as it was sent out in the email to the Commissioners. Commissioner Barbara Peterson seconded the motion. Mayor Pro Tem Austin Brown called for a voice vote, Commissioner Eddie Bronson, Jr. voted "Yes", Commissioner Barbara Peterson voted "yes", Commissioner Carolyn Melvin voted Yes", Commissioner Jo Strickland voted "Yes", and Mayor Pro Tem Austin Brown voted "yes". The application is approved. Mayor Pro Tem Austin Brown called for a motion on the ruling of the Special Use Permit Application for Barbara and James Peterson. Commissioner Jo Strickland made a motion to approve the application. Commissioner Carolyn Melvin seconded the motion. Mayor Pro Tem Austin Brown called for a voice vote, Commissioner Eddie Bronson, Jr. voted "Yes", Commissioner Carolyn Melvin voted "Yes", Commissioner Jo Strickland voted "Yes", and Mayor Pro Tem Austin Brown voted "yes". Commissioner Barbara Peterson was excused from  BOARD'S ACTION FOR BARBARA AND JAMES PETERSON  the vote. The application is approved.  CALENDAR OF EVENTS/ANNOUNOUNCEMENTSICONDOLENCES Harvey Herring stating this town has lost a true Gem.  Condolences: The Town of Garland sends our sincerest condolences to all of those who have recently lost loved ones. Mayor Pro Tem Austin Brown asked for prayers for the family of Mr.  ADJOURNMENT carried unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 6:37 pm.  Mayor Pro Tem Austin Brown called for a motion to adjourn.
