TOWN OF GARLAND BUDGET PLANNING SESSION OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS THURSDAY, MAY13, 2021 7:00 PM The Budget Planning Session of the Board of Commissioners of the Town of Garland was held virtually via GoToMeeting on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 7:00 PM. The following members of the Board of Commissioners were present virtually: Austin Brown Eddie Bronson, Jr. Carolyn R. Melvin Barbara A. Peterson Jo A. Strickland Also present virtually: Town Clerk/Finance Officer Pamela Cashwell. ADMINISTRATIVE Mayor Pro Tem Austin Brown called the budget planning session to order at 7:00 pm and thanked everyone for attending the budget planning séssion tonight. QUORUM Mayor Pro Tem Austin Brown called the roll and established there was a quorum present. BUDGET PLANNING Mayor Pro Tem Brown recognized Town Clerk/Finance Officer Pamela Cashwell to begin discussions on the proposed budget for 2021/2022. Clerk Cashwell provided al budget worksheet and directed the board's attention to the recommended column; stating she had taken all the recommendations from the previous work sessions and has a proposed recommended budget for 2021/2022. (See attached). Clerk Cashwell highlighted the changed areas to include: $15,000.00 allocated in the Zoning Department for a current land use plan and an additional $6,000.00 was allocated for code enforcement. Building department was decreased by $8,000.00 and Park & Recreation Department was decreased by $2,000.00. An allocation of $20,000.00 was included for the Garland Fire & Rescue Department, Inc. and an additional $2,000.00 was placed in the Cemetery Department. Clerk Cashwell noted she tried to meet the various needs discussed as much as the budget would allow. Mayor Pro Tem Austin Brown thanked Clerk Cashwell for all the work she has completed during the budget planning process and stated he was satisfied with the recommended proposed budget as presented. Commissioners Carolyn R. Melvin, Barbara A. Peterson and. Jo A. Strickland voiced they were satisfied with the recommended proposed budget. Commissioner Eddie Bronson Jr. didn't have any comments at this time. 1 Clerk Cashwell provided copies of the current fee schedule. (See attached). Board members discussed current fees and decided to increase the out of town resident cemetery plot fee from $600.00 to $800.00 effective. July 1, 2021.
