TOWNOFGARLAND THURSDAY,UNE20,0A4  WORK SESSION OFTHEI BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS  6:30PM  The Work Session ofthe Board ofCommissioners: ofthe Town ofGarland was held at the Garland Town Halli in  Garland, NC on Thursday, June 20 2024,at 6:30pm.  The following members of the Board of Commissioners were_ present:  1D  Mayor Austin Brown, Commissioner Lee Carberry, Mayor Pro Tem Timothy Blackburn Commissioner Ralph Smith, Commissioner Jo Strickland, Town Clerk, Shauna" Harper and absent was Commissioner CALLTOORDER: Mayor Brown called the meeting to order: at 6:30pm and welcomed everyone ina attendance. Commissioner Smith made a motion to suspend the rules, for business purposes. Commissioner Strickland  Anthony Norris. Also in attendance were residents. ADISTMINTEYADOFTON OF AGENDA seconded the motion and motion carried.  WORK SESSION  Mayor Brown read a letter from Commissioner Norris ofhis concerns(vote). with the tax rate, fire department Commissioner Strickland presented. the board with a purposed budget witha a .48 cent tax rate. Shestated a relative was an accountant and she continued to explain her purposed budget and changes behind al lot of thought. Commissioner Carberry and- Mayor Pro Tem Blackburn wanted time to review what was presented. Commissioner salaries to $100.00, public buildings, biggest cuts were parks and recreation, see what the grant holds, cemeteries, the maintenance of fire ants, pw can do it and fire department will be getting funds Commissioner Strickland motioned to approve the budget she presented. Commissioner Smith seconded, Commissioner Carberry and Mayor Pro Tern needed morei time to review and voted nay, Mayor Brown was thei Mayor Brown advised the board that Union High School basketball team was going to havea fundraiser car wash with permission from the Garland Pizza owners on. June 22. The board saw no problem with it. Allowed Mayor Brown announced there would be no meeting on Monday, June 24 as previously scheduled. At motion was made by Commissioner Smith to adjourn the meeting seconded by Commissioner Strickland, in  and cemetery, No action was taken.
