CALLTO ORDER: Aq quorum being present, Mayor Weeks called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Walter Weeks delivered the invocation as well as lead those in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance. COMMISSIONER JERRY BEASLEY NOES (0) V.MANAGER & COMMITTEE REPORTS DEPARTMENT UPDATES: Town Manager Kenny Cole started off by informing the board of our day of events. We had about 140 third graders visit town hall. They asked ai range of questions to include why is the town building a new IGA? All around was a great day with the children. Mayor Walter Weeks thanks Kenny Cole, Cortney Kerns, Jeremy Hall, Gary Denton, and Rebecca Dallamura for their help and input to make the day successful and run smoothly. Mr. Cole reminds the board about Farmer's Day starting Friday October 11-Sunday October 13. Mr. Cole then announces the date for the Christmas Parade, December 5th. Commissioner Allen Mosby and Mayor Pro-tem Linda Robinson, along with her granddaughter will be riding in the Farmer's Day Parade on Saturday, October 12. Public Works director Gary Denton introduces his two new employees, Wayne Snipes from Angier and Robert Moore from Erwin. Mayor Walter Weeks welcomes them. Police ChiefJeremy Hall went through the citations written, arrest made, reported incidents, cases cleared, and reported wrecks. 2 Rebecca Dallamura from the Library explained that the circulation percentage has remained constant since the last month. She said her day with the third graders was a lot offun. VI. OLDBUSINESS A. Appointment to the Harnett County Library Broad ofTrustees: The Harnett County Board ofTrustees requested a citizen ofCoats to serve on their board. This item was presented at the August 8, 2013 meeting. Kenny Cole recommends appointing Margaret House to the Harnett county Library Board ofTrustees. Various streets will need tol be closed to accommodate the related activities. Please review and accept the attached street closures. ChiefJeremy Hall explains street closing are same as last year except main street closing is an extra 30 minutes. He explains we arel keeping Carrie St. open and he added: no parking signs to Ida St. The Fire Department will help assist by keeping their interest open and clear. Mayor Weeks MOTION BY: MAYOR. Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a chance to raise awareness about the importance of screening and the early detection of breast cancer. Kenny Cole is requesting the town consider aj proclamation to recognize October as. Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the Town of Coats. Special Olympics Funding Request: Harnett County Special Olympics submitted a letter to the Mayor and Commissioners asking for a contribution of$3,000 to fund their program. Mr. Cole explains that other towns and counties are: not contributing because it was not included in budgets. Mayor Walter Weeks suggest the organization submit a request for this during our budget cycle. PUBLIC FORUM Oscar Aylor, Harnett Health: Harnett Health is celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A student has made a button chair, where every button tells a story ofaj person affected by Breast Cancer. This chair is at Central Harnett Health and he invites us to come look. He also explains the new hospital is growing and they now have 30 beds open. The emergency room: is averaging about 60-70 visits per month.
