Warden Fewell stated thati normally the October and November are the high months in this county reiterating that the current populationi is 311, and thef facility has 3261 beds. To mitigate overcrowding the WCCC will contract outi inmates to Greene County and that contracts will alsol bei in place with Allegheny County as well as Beaver County. Six Southwest Corner Workforce Development Board Director Ami Gatts was introduced to present ani idea to assisti inmates with inmate reintegration. Ms. Gatts stated that she conducteda brainstorming session yesterday to come up withi ideas for activities thati inmates can doi in spare time. She would liket to assess inmate interests, skillsa and: suitability by reviewing inmate reading skills, computer: skills, etc. She explained that her organization would work withl Penn Commercial in offering coursework: intended toj prepare inmates for the GED which would require a 50-75 hour commitment. After thef firstp phase is completed, there would be: and option tot train for the careers: such as welding, commercial driving (CDL) and culinary. These careers havel been chosen because they don'tnormally require a background check as extensive. ass some other careers. Ms. Gatts emphasized that ani inmate could continue thet trainingi ifreleased before completed. Ms. Gatts would like to determine how to deliver theses skills ast to whetheri itl bet through computer instruction ori inj person. Mrs. Vaughan stated that the program would be funded by the Southwest Corner' Workforce Development organization. However, supplemental funding could also come from thel Inmate Welfare Mrs. Vaughan called an executive session ata approximately 11:17 a.m. to discuss personnel.
