PAGE 1 REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING 100290 ASSEMBLY Council of the Borough of Tarentum met in regular session on Monday, July 15, 2013, with Councilman President Tim Rapp; Councilman Vice-President Hugh Fox; Raymond Kerr; Councilman Tim Firko; Councilman Mike Gutonski; and Councilman Pete Varos. Also present were Mayor Carl Magnetta; Borough Manager William Rosseyi and Solicitor David Strellec. Councilman Carter was absent. Burkett Mr. Burkett, Lawton Street, stated he lost his electricity several times in the last two weeks and had to replace his surge protectors several times. He asked what the problem has been with Borough Manager Rossey stated some of the power outages were caused by the storms and West Penn Power. A fuse has been changed on 6th Avenue to a higher amp to handle the heavy draw in that Mr. Mayhugh, West 7th Avenue, stated a power surge a couple months ago blew out three surge protectors in his house and the breakers. PAGE 2 100291 REMARKS: MR. MAYHUGH Mr. Mayhugh stated as far as the tree trimming that's going on, it's not happening yet where he lives. He stated he's trimmed the trees of the last five houses. He thanked Councilman Gutonski for his help in getting his sewage problems fixed. He stated the camera was run through the lines and there were tree roots blocking the lines. The roots have now been cut out and there are no longer any problems with the sewer lines. Ms. Landa stated she called 911 to report the power outage and the operator told her to call the power company. She asked what she was suppose to do to report a power outage. Chief Vakulick stated the 911 operator is suppose to give the call to the police and the police make the appropriate phone calls to get it repaired. He stated during the day the Borough office is open to take the calls. Mr. Lovasik stated the barber next to the building that was torn down had to use his own money to fix the side of his building that was damaged. He stated after these people finish tearing down the building, the lot in the front is going to be open and somebody is liable to fall. He stated there is a lot of adults and Borough Manager Rossey stated he would look into the matter and see if anything can be done. REMARKS: MS. LANDA REMARKS: CHIEF VAKULICK REMARKS: MR. REMARKS: BOROUGH MANAGER ROSSEY REMARKS: COUNCILMAN RAPP Councilman Rapp stated, under President's Comments, he attended the Tarentum Business Advisory meeting. PAGE 3 100292 that turned into a weed patch coming into Tarentum and ask what their plans are for that Borough Manager Rossey stated PennDOT has a roadside beautification program and there are some business owners that want to contribute to making that area look nice. He stated an application was made for trees in that area, but for now the area can be mulched to clean it up. He stated Lower Burrell was contacted and has agreed to come and cut the area with their brush A discussion was held regarding the overgrown Councilman Rapp asked for a report from the Mayor Magnetta stated for the month of June 2013, there were 313 calls for service which is a plus 11 from 2012; 50 arrests which is a plus 29 from 2012; 124 citations issued which is a plus 44 from 2012; total accidents 9 which is the same as 2012, accidents with injuries 1 which is a plus 1 from 2012; fines collected $4,003.80 which is a minus of $1,634.79 from 2012; fines collected for year $38,395.10 which is a minus $8,745.00 from 2012; parking tickets issued 51 Mayor Magnetta stated on June 20, attended the Allegheny County Mayor Association meeting along with Chief Vakulick. On June 26, attended and worked for the Recreation Board concert. On July 3, attended and worked the Summit Hose and Recreation Board community fireworks display. The next concert is on the 24th. He stated the Recreation Board helped with the fireworks, which also included the Mayor helping out.
