TARENTUM BOROUGH ALLEGHEN COUNTY REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING TUESDAY JUNE 6TH 2017 6:30 Call to order, Pledge of Allegiance, Pres. Eric Carter reminded everyone that the meeting was being recorded. ATTENDING: Erika Josefoski, Carrie Fox, Adam Blythe,Eric Carter, Rhonda Dzugan, Tim Cornuet, Greg Schmitt, Mayor Carl Magnetta, Manager Michael Gutonski, Solicitor Regoli. Absent. ChiefVakulick, Officer Fabec attended in his place. Motion by Greg Schmitt second by Carrie Fox to approve the minutes from the May 2nd 2017 council meeting. Motion passed. CITIZENS COMMENTS: 1. Kristen Rusiewicz requested the use oft the Riverview Park to hold an animal awareness and prevention program. She stated she wanted tol keep people informed on illnesses that affect their pets. Manager Gutonski asked her to come and meet with him to discuss the 2. Jim Bowser thanked the Borough officials for putting his fathers veterans banner up on west 7th ave. Carrie Fox verified that the request had been brought to the rec board and they had no problem with putting the banners in West Tarentum...A discussion followed. 3. PRESIDENTS REPORT 1. Pres. Carter stated that the aside from the weather, the program on Memorial Day went 2. Pres. Carter stated that he spoke with Paul Perriello about what the effect Family Dollar may have on the Mom and Pop stores in the area and assured him Tarentum has no intention of pushing out his store or any other stores in the area....Carter also stated that the Borough could have possibly approached the stores in the area to get their input. 3. Pres.Carter also stated that he has spoken with various individuals in regards to the proposed billl being presented by a certain representative limiting the revenues generated byt the electric. He also stated the borough needs options in case the bill would pass. well. MAYORS REPORT 1. Mayor Magnetta reported the calls of service for april 2017...calls ofs service 498... action necessary 253... no action necessary 245... arrests 24... citations issued 96... total accidents 9 ..accidents with injuries 0... fines collected $1,912.15. ..fines collected for the year $10,007.78..parking tickets issued 14 POLICE CHIEFS REPORT 1. Nothing at this time. MANAGERS REPORT 1. Manager Gutonski gave an update on the Grandview playground, everything is moving ahead, we arel hoping for completion by the end of. June early July. Tarentum is asking Highlands School District to donate extra funds to help pay for the completion of the new asphalt. He also stated that the Street Department has done an excellent job assisting with the work at the playground. He also stated the completion oft the 4thave. bridge should be completed by late July early August and that bids have been received for the completion 2. Manager Gutonski reported the Family Dollar project is moving forward with a projected 3. Manager Gutonski reported that due to loitering and excessive garbage the bus stop at 4th 4. Manager Gutonski and Carrie visited DeerLakes High School and met students interested in the program and were informed of1 student from Highlands High School that was interested as well...Carrie stated that the borough is pushing for a supervisor through the program to guide the students daily while working for the borough. 5. Manager Gutonski stated that something must be done with the median strip on rt.366 leading to the expressway. The work to maintain it is to much for the steet dept. to handle considering their already large work load and that the are not skilled landscapers. Motion by Adam Blythe second by Tim Cornuet to approve the low bid of $76,052.00 from worldwide industries inc. for repairs to the interior of water Mayor Magnetta stated that he attended the openings for the water tanks and said the highest bid was $245,500.00 to the lowest of $76,052.00. The engineer stated that worldwide industries are very reliable. Carrie Fox ask what was budgeted for the project. ELECTRIC 1. Carrie Fox reported that PEMA legislator Aaron Bernstein of Elwood City is presenting legislation to stop the transfer ofe electric funds into the general funds. Ifthis passes there could be a hugh increase in water rates as well as taxes. Mayor Magnetta stated he spoke to Senator Vulakovich and said he will assist Tarentum in any way possible. STREETS AND SANITARY SEWERS 1. PUBLIC SAFETY AND CIVIL SERVICE 1. Tim Cornuet reported on Eureka Fire and Rescues May 2017 incident report. 2. Mayor Magnetta stated that a Valley News reporter ask about the cameras that were installed in the park and ift there had been any furtherincidents. The Mayor stated that there have not been any further incidents. PARKS AND RECREATION 1.
