AI Message from the Fire Chief 125 Emergency: services are continually evolving, with new challenges arising dailyt thati test first responders. These issues arer not uniquet toF Patterson! Heights but affect departments nationwide. Some common challengesi include alack ofr manpower, insufficient funding, inadequate training, and aginge equipment. To address these issues proactively, the PHVFDis takings stepst to ensure wer remaino a viable organization in thet future. Lack ofr manpoweri is perhaps the! biggest issue facing thev volunteer fires service. Wel have beeni fortunatei in recent years tor recruit newr members, but we are dways lookingf for more. Opportunities include Associate Members, Fire! Police, Jr. Firefighters Suppression Firefighters, and Suppression! Firefighters. Nop previous experience isr required. Lack off fundingi is another significant issue. Inn many municipalities, fire departments are often an afterthought wheni it comes tot funding. Ouro department has been very activei in applying fors state, federal, andp private Int the past year and al wel have received grantsf from The Office oft the State Fire Commissioner, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, The Garys SiniseF Foundation, and AEDGrant.com. Last month, we submitted and applicationi for 50(c)(3) (Charitable Organization): status. We arel hopeful to receive this designation, whichs should open up additional funding opportunities fort the The Office of the State Fire Commissioner operates ar recognition programi that acknowledges fire departments atc a national level based ont their certification levels. This program honors organizations that activelys support, promote, andr motivate their emergency response personnel to voluntarily obtain certificationi through the Commonwedlths Certification! Program, overseen byt the Office oft the State Fire Commissioner. We are pleased to announcet that this past December, we attained Bronzel Level Status, signifying that atl least 50% of our members are Pro-Board Firefighterl Icertified. EMSr resources are stretched thin, creating a stresseds system. Likei thet fires service,t thisi isa nationwide crisis. Int they past few months, the PHVFDI has beeny working closely with Borough Councilt to achieve ORS (Quick Response Service) certification. Wel have recently purchased asquad (2015F Ford Explorer), and our goali is to certifyt thes squado and one of oure engines for QRS. Whilet thisi isr not a replacement for EMS, our godli is tol help alleviates some oft the! burden onl local EMSP providers ando offeri ther residents ofF Pattersonk Heights anotherl leveld ofs service. We are looking forp people tos supplement manpower for QRS who might noth bei interestedi in thet firefighting side. Thosei interestedi in obtaining Emergency! Medical Responder (EMR) certification, whichr requires approximately 56-70 hours of hybrid classroomi instruction, should We deeply appreciate thes support of ther residents ofF Patterson Heights. Your encouragement, participation, and contributions are vitalt to ours success ande enable ust to continue providing emergency: servicest to our community.
