WHEREAS, since the Industrial Revolution, human beings (largely ini the Global North) have  burned fossil fuels like coal, methane, and oil to support unprecedented levels of  economic and population growth.  WHEREAS, even int the most optimistic climate projections, where the world comes together to  reduce greenhouse gas emission by 50% by 2030 and becomes fully net-zero by 2050, our planet will warm by 1.5 Degrees Celsius, resulting in a 70-90% die-off of our global coral reefs, 8.6 times as many annual heatwaves as our great- grandparents experienced between 1850 and 1900, 1-3ft. of seal level rise over the next 77 years, and 6 percent of the insects, 8 percent of the plants and 4 percent of the vertebrates will see their climatically determined geographic range  reduced by more than half.
