With that, he said the city has African Americans in our community who have made huge contribution, and he would City Council to acknowledge and celebrate their accomplishments. This will be an annual award; this First is Mr. Andrew B. Theadford, Sr., Mr. Theadford was the first the first African American patrolman in 1953, retiring in 1973. Mr. Pintabone asked any members ofMr. Theadfords family to come forward. Mr. Theadfords family was presented with a Commendation from City Council Second is Mr. Stephen E. Henley, Sr. was an African American policeman for 26 years and was the first African American officer to hold the ranks of detective and captain. Mr. Henleys family Third is Mr. Joseph W. Dorsey, Jr. joined the fire department 1952, retiring in 1990. Mr. Dorsey rose to the ranks to be become captain. ChiefHennings and Captain Terrance Hand helped present City Council members each took a turn to congratulate the three recipients oft the award. year we have three people to acknowledge. and Chief Scalzo. was presented with a Commendation from City Council and Chief Scalzo. the Commendation to the family ofMr. Dorsey. Mr. Pintabone, Chairperson of the Economic Development Committee, stated he attended the School Board meeting with Mrs. Rose. The school district agreed to give $30,000 toward the Vanderver Park basketball court. Mrs. Rose, Chairperson of Planning and Codes, spoke about the importance of opening Mrs. Rose states she met with the Director of Planning and Codes along with the City Administrator, Mr. Campos. Dr. Ruggles, Chairperson for Public Safety, advised council the dates for Lidar training are July 9 and 12th. There will be four police officers and Dr. Ruggles in the training. The scanner is here, in the chief's office. Dr. Ruggles explained having the Lidar is very important and we will be one of four police departments in the country that have the Lidar. The other departments are in large cities. The scanner will be helpful with accident and crime scene investigations. He stated he feels having a drone would be a great asset and help to Dr. Ruggles agreed and further stated there is a scanner available that penetrates water and could police, fire and water rescue. assist with drowning victims. Mr. Campos stated the police currently have drones. Mr. Ruggles stated the police drones do not have the Lidar capability.
