President Street Post Officel Box 17 Jackson, Mississippi 39205-0017 Telephone: 601-960-1084 Facsimile: 601-960-2193  SISS  PROCLAMATION  WHEREAS, Section 45-17-1, ets seq., ofthel Mississippi Code of1 1972, as amended, authorizes the WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Jackson, Mississippi, is authorized to declare a State of Emergency and toj promulgate such rules, regulations, and orders as he deems necessary to protect life and WHEREAS, thel National Weather Service predicted a severe winter storm cell that would impact certain portions of the State of Mississippi directly, beginning on Thursday, May 9, 2024, including excessive: rain, wind speeds in excess of 70 miles per hour, hail, and potential tornadoes; and WHEREAS, this storm system has caused widespread power outages, including to the O.B. Curtis Water Treatment Plant, which has resulted in a low water pressure throughout the City and al boil-water WHEREAS, this storm system has caused damage to homes, businesses, public property, and WHEREAS, in consideration of the health, safety, and welfare of the City's residents and the protection of their property within the affected areas, and in the public interest, all efforts should be taken NOW, THEREFORE, I, Chokwe A. Lumumba, Mayor of the City of Jackson, Mississippi, pursuant to the authority vested ini me under Section 45-17-1, et. seq., oft the Mississippi Code of1 1972, as amended, and in the public interest and for the general welfare oft the City of. Jackson, do hereby proclaim aSTATE OF EMERGENCY for the City of. Jackson, and said emergency shall bei reviewed every seven (7) days until such local emergency is no longer in effect and proclaimed terminated by the Mayor oft the  Mayor ofa municipality to proclaim the existence ofac civil emergency; and  property; and  alert for all surface water customers;  threatened the safety oft the citizens and property oft the City of Jackson, Mississippi; and  to protect people and property.
