Session Meeting Minutes ATTENDEES Nathan Davis, Councilman John Hendrix, Councilman (via phone) Sean Moore, Councilman Kim Simonds, City Manager/Clerk Rick Austin, PhD, Mayor AGENDA ITEMIand I: INVOCATION AND PLEDGE TO THE FLAG The May 19, 2020 Demorest City Council Special Called meeting was heldi int the Demorest Municipal Building located at 125 Ivy Street. Councilman Moore opened with the invocation and pledge to the flag. AGENDA ITEM Il: CALLT TOORDER Mayor Austin called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. AGENDA ITEM IV: APPROVAL OF AGENDA Mayor Austin called for a motion to approve the agenda. A motion was made by Councilman Moore and seconded by Councilman Davis to accept thè agenda as printed. ACTION: The agenda was approved as printed (3-0) AGENDA ITEM V: SPLOST DISCUSSION receive $1.7 million from SPLOST 2021. Joely Mixon, City Treasurer, began the discussion by reviewing past SPLOST distribution (see attachment) ending with what balances are currently left. She explained that Demorest is expected to Bryan Popham, Public Works Director, began by handing out a list ofe equipment and projects for which SPLOST funds could be used. He mentioned the dump truck ($117,000) and chipper ($33,200) which were discussed at the previous meeting. Replacing the concrete wall on Historic Hwy 441 was discussed Robin Krockum, Chief of Police, said that he is requesting $175,000 to replace 5 police cars and $50,000 Ken Ranalli, Fire Chief, told the group that his request would bei for a new fire truck and a thermal imaging camera. The new truck would be approximately: $550,000 andi the thermal imaging unit and sO was replacement ofs sidewalk sections. tor replace the car camera systems with a new: server to allow for cloud storage. approximately $10,000. $60,000 is also being requested for new bathrooms int the park. Ms. Mixon said that she would work to combine the requests and have an official list for which Council At this point Ms. Simonds asked if Council would consider approving thei immediate purchase oft the dump truck and the chipper, as bothi items are needed as soon as possible. Attorney Homans (who was contacted by phone) said the approval of the purchases could be made pending the receipt of 2 other bids on each piece of equipment. Councilman Davis made a motion to purchase the wood chipper pending the receipt of 2 other bids. That motion was seconded by Councilman Hendrix.
