ATTENDEES  Shawn Allen, Councilman Donnie Bennett, Councilman Jerry Harkness, Mayor John Hendrix, Councilman  Andrew Ferguson, Councilman Megan Chastain, City Clerk Thomas Mitchell, City Attorney Mark Musselwhite, City Manager via phone  The October 26, 2023, Demorest City Council Millage Rate Public Hearing was held ini the Demorest Municipal Conference Center located at 250 Alabama Street.  1. INVOCATION  Mayor Harkness opened the meeting by leading in prayer.  2. CALL - TOORDER  Mayor Harkness called the meeting to order at 12:00 p.m.  3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA  Mayor Harkness asked if there were changes or additions to be made to the agenda. A motion was made by Councilman Bennett to approve the agenda as presented and was seconded by ACTION:The motion to approve the agenda as presented was unanimously approved (4-0).  Councilman Ferguson.  4. PUBLICI HEARING FOR 2023 MILLAGE RATE  The Demorest City Council has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 16.51% percent. All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase tol be held at Demorest Municipal Conference Center, 250 Alabama Street, Demorest, Georgia on October 26, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 6.16 mills, ani increase of. .873 mills. Without this tentative increase, the millage rate will be no more than 5.287 mills. The proposed taxi increase for al home with a fair market value of $175,000is approximately: $61.11 and the proposed taxi increase for non-homestead property with at fair market value of $225,0001 is approximately $78.57. Mayor Harkness called for public comment. No comments  were made so Mayor Harkness closed the public hearing.  1Page    5.
