The Carl Junction City Council met in special session on Tuesday August 30, 2022 at 6:00 PM at City Hall. Mayor Mark Powers called the meeting to order with the following present: Jim Gozia, Bob McAfee, Roger Spencer, Ladonna Allen, and Hollie LaVigne. Rick Flinn, Mike Burns, and Mark Satterlee were absent. Also present were City Administrator Stevel Lawver, City Attorney  Mike Talley, City Clerk Alaina Wright and City Administrator Assistant Crystal Winkfield. Discussion: Mayor Powers wanted tol know how much it costs the city to mail taxes each year. Alaina Wright said last year we: spent approximately $8,000 on mailing taxes in November, and that didn'tinclude a second mailing which we typically do. Stevel Lawver said Jasper County currently has a 95%0 collection rate fort taxes, while our collection rate is around 82%. Mayor Powers said by his calculations the city would have an additional $40,000 int tax revenue with thei increased collection rate. Jim Gozia asked about the 4%1 fee and Steve Lawver said every municipality in Jasper County pays the same rate. LaDonna. Alleni motioned to puti it on second reading by title only.
