Trust 22 June 2024 About six (6) months ago, linformed the LCAgTrust Chairman that my businesses have really heated up in the past three years and I would not continue on the AgTrust after my current term expires on June 30th. This note is just to confirm that Iwill not be requesting that the Town Council continue my appointment to the AgTrust after July 1st. Having been appointed to the AgTrust in March of 2008, Ihave been honored to work under two superb chairmen, George Mason and Bill Richmond, for those 16+ years. l'am grateful that the Town Council repeatedly placed your trust in me to serve. In my career, Ihave been honored to serve on inner circle advisory councils to the Mayors of Philadelphia and New Bedford and been sent on development missions, by the USAID organization to seven countries around the world. Wheneverireturnes, lappreciated the AgTrust more. Iti is a non-political backbone organization in Little Compton. Its objectives are positive in SO many ways; itisr rock solid. The founders were brilliant farsighted thinkers. Aslleave this appointment, I ask for one caveat from the five of you: Do not permit any periodic small minded ludites mess with the AgTrust. You all know that divisiveness in our Nation is on the rise and, as it rises, individuals lash out to blame others. Most recently, a few Individuals have blamed the AgTrust for increases in property values and the nationwide shortage of affordable housing. The irony?; when you research the 1985 beginning of the AgTrust, the loudest arguments against it were that it would force land and home values down! PO Box 936 Little Compton, RI 02837 Little Compton Town Council PO Box 226/The Commons Little Compton, RI 02837 July2,2024 Dear Little Compton Town Council Members, In response to the recent article ini the Sakonnet Times about the possible use of the Odd Fellows Hall for a Senior Center, I am writing to remind you that LC Makers, along with other organizations, frequently use that space for programming. LCI Makers has been using the Odd Fellows Hall for programming for almost eight years now. In 2023 we actively utilized the space approximately 85 days, serving approximately 850 registrants. While we would have no problem sharing the space with the seniors, we do have some concerns about how the proposal ofi it being utilized as a "Senior Center" may impact our current use of the space, mainly with regards to the 8am-4pm hours referenced in the article and Council member Gary Mataronas's quote "..-and when they come back the next day, it's the same, nothing is changed." The main timeframe LCI Makers conducts programs is directly after school starting at 3pm. This time makes the most sense as it allows us to pick students up directly after school sO working parents can then pick their child(ren) up later after the program ends without having any required pick-up from school and drop off to the program inbetween. Having to delay our program start to 4pm would be detrimental to our program function. In addition, we need time tos set upi for our program, sO generally need access to the building starting at 2:30pm. Also, thei idea that ".-and when they come back the next day, it's the same, nothing is changed." would prevent the Odd Fellows Hall from being used as the shared space which it currently is. We could not run our programs if we are unable to set upi the space as needed for our various programs, which include sewing machines, laptops, a 3D printer, science and art projects and more. We could not worki in a space set-up that could not be changed. We are hopeful that before any decision is made as to whether the Odd Fellows Hall might be used for a potential senior center that our group's use of the hall and all other groups' use of the hall would be carefully considered and that any decision made would not prevent or LCMAKERS BUILDING.
