WORK SESSIONS A) Discussion regarding the. Airport Master Plan. Mr. Shawn Schroeder, Assistant Airport Director introduced Ms. Julie Philipone whom briefly informed the Commission ofthe development oft the Airport Master Plan as mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration. Ms. Philipone noted that the plan is to assist the Airport and the City of Brownsville in a manner that coincides with current and future aviation needs for our region. Ms. Philipone, further noted that the plan would identify new airport planning and development recommendations that would be consistent with the airport's current and future needs for a 20-year planning horizon; and the process of the plan would be guided by the FAA and ultimately results in projections of future passenger: and aviation activity growth and preparation of an Airport Layout Plan (ALP). B) Discussion regarding the LGBTQ Task Force, its composition and application process. Joe Uvalles and Griselda Martinez gave al brief explanation oft the composition and application process for the LGBTQ, noting the importance of the gender identity and suggested that the composition of the task force be as diverse as our community. C) Planning & Redevelopment Department Pillar Update. Mr. Rick Vasquez, Planning and Redevelopment Director briefly informed the Commission of the Annual Work Plan, in which consisted of; Land Development Core Services, Land Development Environment and the challenges they currently face are Short Minutes February 18, 2020 - Page 2of10 Term Strategies Now within the next 12 months, Mid-Range Strategies 12 to 24: months, Long Term 5 year plan and Historic Preservation & Downtown activation framework. Commissioner Ben Neece: noted that the codes that were currently in place needed tol be dealt with immediately, sO that businesses avoid having to wait unnecessary time for approvals. Commissioner Neece further noted that a lawyer needed to be in place now rather than later to avoid any delays and requested that the current codes be repealed in Mayor Trey Mendez noted that he would hold the Planning Department accountable to the 12-month period in rewriting the UDC codes.
