REGULAR MEETING OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF CANTON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (CEDC) 5:30 P.M., TUESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2022 201 N. BUFFALO STREET, CANTON, TEXAS CANTON CITY HALL Minutes The Board of Directors oft the Canton Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) attended a regular meeting at the above-mentioned date and time. CEDC Board members present included: President Kevin Deibert, 1st Vice Chair DeAnne Callan, Corley Ragle, Justin Richard and ex officio Lonny Cluck and Lou Ann Everett. Not in attendance was Thomas Beckham and Larry Morgan. CEDC Staff attending was Executive CEDC Director Stacy Crossley, Assistant CEDC Director Megan Mitchell, and Marketing Coordinator Austin Melton. Consider Recommendation for Appointment to fill vacated seat on the Canton Main Street Advisory Board: DeAnne Callan made a motion to approve the September 27, 2022, meeting minutes, September 2022 financial reports and the appointment of a new Board member for the Main Street Program. Updates and Community Announcements - Lonny Cluck reported that the city has applied for a grant for new docks and restrooms at the Mill Creek Reservoir and is hoping to put 3 ball fields in the area ini the future. Lonnie also reported on the new radio read program for the city water meters. Canton Visitors Bureau and First Monday Marketing Report and Consider Any Action Related Thereto - Austin Melton reported on the most recent marketing report. Approximately 6k was spent to reach over 1million on Facebook and Instagram. Approximately $700 was spent to reach over 4200 followers on Tik Tok. Reported on new merchandise and marketing done through the blog. The Fullers' western honky tonk dance went very well. The new Canton back drop for the state fair booth worked well to help people recognize us. Canton Main Street Reports and Consider Any Action Related Thereto - Megan Mitchell A. Megan Mitchell reported on downtown projects which included the creation of 3 new historical marker plaques, a new crosswalk art project and the new Christmas banners and wreaths that B. Downtown business development activity included a few new businesses that are in the process of opening soon. The new businesses are Van Zandt Barber, A Wild Raven's Nest, C. Certificates of Appropriateness were issued to A Wild Raven's Nest for a sign, Kingdom Church for a sign, the Canton Herald for a replacement awning and the Rustic Rose for an D. Downtown Event update included the huge success of the 21st annual Autumn Festival, the upcoming Trick-or-Treat on Main Street and the highly anticipated Snow Day Festival. 15. Executive Director's Report and Consider Any Action Related Thereto = Stacy Crossley will be put up next month. Kingdom Church and A Kneady Woman exterior building remodel. A. Stacy reported on current CEDC Projects / Partnerships which included an update on the H.B. I.C. FHWA approval, the approval ofincentive grants fori the C-Store and JTS Operations, a new horseshoe art project, continued efforts on website listings, pocket park improvements, Nextsite contract review and discussion on starting a new small business incentive grant program. B. CEDC business ladministration updates included a recent open records request, upcoming workforce meeting, ISD strategic meeting, VZ county broadband map review, update on delinquent HOTTAX accounts and current bid solicitation for the city IT provider. C. Local development activity included the closure of Winning Strategies. CO's were issued to Overstock Joes at 17729 I-20, Cynefin at 300 E. Main Street and Key Imports at 1457 N. Trade Days Blvd. CO's under review include Pik a Pup at 540 Tyler Street, Pure Radiant You at 100 Industrial Ste. 200 and Kingdom Church at 208 W. Dallas Street. Commercial permits were issued for dirt work for a self-storage facility at 17434 I-20, a new roof at the county courthouse, a fuel canopy for Dukes at 21620 I-20 and a 3rd apartment building for the Burnett Trail Apartments at 312 Burnett Trail. Residential permits were issued for 127 Lakeview and 136 Ellis D. Community event announcements included a project the County Courthouse will decorate with When necessary and warranted, a closed or executive session will follow pursuant to the provision of the Texas Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551 of the Texas Governmento Code, Section Ave. green lighting to support Veterans Day. 551.087 16.
