Due to COVID-19 circumstances, the commission meeting was held via conference call. On a motion by Tim McDaniel and seconded by. Jamie Carpenter, the December 7th meeting minutes were approved. 3/0 Exonerations were presented. Onar motion by. JOHN CEBIK, JANE CROSSEN MCDERMITT, ARLINE TALLMAN The Barbour County Commission announced the 2020 winner of the Emergency and Crisis Management Exemplary Community Award to Wolfe Run Mining, LLC-Leer South. The decision panel, comprised oft the County Commission, Sheriff, LEPC, OEMa and Barbour County Development Authority, met on November 18. Wolfe-Run Mining, LLC-Leer South was chosen due their progressive planning, preparedness exercises and community collaboration to make the Little Hackers Creek Slurry Impoundment emergency plan flawless and effective. The commission thanked them for their continued efforts and appreciate their preparedness. Mr. Tom Freeman, on behalf of Leer South, thanked the commission and all the agencies who participated int the creation oft their plan. 2020 brought forth challenges but Susie Cvechko recognized and thanked the four Courthouse retirees. Tim McDaniel is completing three terms of dedicated service tot the citizens of Barbour County as County Commissioner. Phil Ferguson is retiring with 28 years of dedicated service from the Barbour County Sheriff's Department, and as the current Sheriff. John Cutright is retiring with over 40 years of dedication to the citizens of Barbour County in various roles, including twoi terms as Sheriff and 3 terms as Assessor. Ron Schoonover is retiring with over 10 years of service as the Sheriff Chief Tax Deputy. Jamie Carpenter thanked them all for their faithful service and recognized the tremendous amount of Mullens & Mullens provided an update on the Opioid Litigation. Hunter Mullens discussed an opportunity to partner with grant writers for applications toi the State's Cares Act funding. On ar motion by. Ona motion by Tim McDaniel and seconded by Susie Cvehcko, the recommendation for purchasing Aridea fever monitors for the courthouse andi family court and I-wave air purifying units fort the heating and cooling system at the Courthouse were approved. These purchases will bei included on the December CARES Act reimbursement request. The City of Philippi submitted al letter for collaboration and funding consideration to help fund the bridge replacement at the Blue & Gray Park that washed out during flooding. The City of Philippi has pledged $10,000 and the Mennonite Disaster Services organization has pledged $5,000. The project is projected to cost $40,000. Ona motion by Tim McDaniel and seconded by.
