PROPOSED BILL CONCERNINGI FAYETTE COUNTY FIREFIGHTERS ASSOCIATION Mr. Jeff Bradford of the Alabama Forestry Commission reported tot the Council that the Alabama Legislature will be considering a bill this legislative session that would increase ad valorem taxes in Fayette County by 3 mills. The proceeds from the 3 mill increase would be paid to the Fayette County Firefighters Association and be distributed equally among the paid and volunteer fire departments in Fayette County. There are twelve volunteer fire departments in the County and one paid department (City). Mr. Bradford stated he did not know ifthe Fayette County Commission supported this bill. The Fire Chief Shannon Taylor stated he supported the volunteer fire departments. He stated the addition of3 mills would generate $342,814.77. This increase would generate $104,211.12 from property within the City limits. This amount does not include the police jurisdiction or the additional coverage area that the City Fire Department covers.
