Upon the call ofroll, the following were found to be present: Pledge ofAllegiance Mayor Nelson Councilwoman Greene Councilman Heathcoe Councilwoman Moss Councilman Howell Councilman Ivy was absent. Attorney Johnny Lane was absent The city clerk was present. Minutes from the council meeting held on, August 14 were presented. Councilman Howell made a motion to accept the minutes from the meeting held on August 14, 2014 with the correction of the senior garbage rate should be $3 and not$3.25. Councilwoman Moss seconded, all favored, none opposed, motion carried. CITIZENS. ADDRESSING THE COUNCIL None RESOLUTIONS, ORDINANCES OTHER BUSINESS Councilwoman Greene discussed that after speaking with the ladies in the city hall, she would like the council to consider changing the daily business hours to Monday thru Thursday working 91 hours and half days on Fridays. The ladies stated that they would enjoy this change because it would allow them to service the citizens and also take care of personal business on Friday evenings while other businesses are still open instead of having to take time off, often leaving the office unavoidably shorthanded. Councilman Heathcoe made a motion to change the hours of business for the city hall to Monday All favored, none opposed, motion carried. Kim will work out the details and make sure everyone is properly notified, Councilwoman Greene clarified that this will include Street thru Thursday working 9: hours and half days on Friday. department ifl he chooses to do this change as well. PLANNING COMMITTEE There will be a special meeting immediately following the council meeting tonight. ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS No business CREOLA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT GROUP PARKS AND RECREATION No business UTILITIES AND SENIOR CITIZEN Councilwoman Moss stated that she had put the information in each box for the council to consider raising the deposit amount on the SAIL center, and changing the time from to receive the deposit back. Council discussed the changes desired. Motion was: made by Councilwoman Moss to pass the new contract for SAIL center rental.. Motion seconded by Councilman Howell, all favored, none opposed, motion carried. FINANCE Councilwoman Greene stated she just had the questions about attorney's bill, Mayor said ok. Mayor said there may be a drop in revenue due to a slight loss in oil production. Council stated that this is due to Saraland's recent annexation of some oft the property that contains the oil wells. Councilwoman Greene explained that it was a board decision for the Christmas parade to be early, she stated that all the communities enjoy celebrating together and the board thought that if the city's parade was earlier than the others, all communities could celebrate and participate without rushing. She stated that the group is open, and all comments and suggestions are COMMUNITY GROUP welcome. POLICE AND FIRE Chief] Reeves said the FD will be receiving their call outs via cell really soon SO will possibly be disconnecting the Verizon services which will save the city about $30,000 annually. The bill runs about $2,000 to $2,500 monthly. STREETS Councilman Heathcoe asked how much money was in the street fund account, city clerk stated Councilman Heathcoe made motion for WENCO to repair culverts for the amount of $1,862. its about $22,000 in the account. Councilman Howell seconded, all favored, none opposed, motion carried. The only other estimate received was from RSI for $6,226.50. ADDITIONAL NOTES Councilman Howell stated that the Eagle Scout will start their project in October. Council discussed different projects for improving the park, basketball court, disc golf area, repairing the bathrooms etc. Council will bring back ideas at next meeting.
