Pledge of Allegiance A quorum is present. He mentioned that he was told he could not have his cellphone in the meeting but I'm sitting here looking at the Mayor and council with their cellphones. Mayor Criswell stated again that he said, "No cellphones activated, noi texting, no calls, etc." RESOLUTIONS, ORDINANCES AND OTHER BUSINESS 1- 2020 Census - Shemika Brown Partnership Specialist The Mayor introduced Ms. Shemika Brown and she gave us an overview of the 2020 Census. Councilman Martin asked, "Why is the census sO important?" Ms. Brown answered, saying, "lt is very important that everyone be counted in your home. There were no many children not counted for numerous reasons. Like living with another relative, etc. but was not counted either place. We will receive paperwork for 2020 Census April 1, 2020. To apply as a census worker, must be 18 or older, have a valid e-mail address. Contact: 1-855-JOB-2020. The 2020 Census workers will have badges toi identify them. Everything is confidential. Ms. Brown will attend the August 22nd council meeting toi fully 2- Mayor Criswell recognized Randy Campbell, Principal of Citronelle High School & (a) Heather Cook - Intern Signature Specialist w/ Citronelle Signature Academy Mr. Campbell reported there were 47 paid interns this past summer. Five years ago, we started with 8 interns. This is the third year for Creola to participate. Mayor Criswell stated that we had 2 interns working with the City this summer. Councilwoman Greene read a proclamation for Dreayana Morgan. Councilwoman Moss read a proclamation for Aarrianna Byrd. 3.Mayor Criswell reported that the Public Works Department needs weedeaters as the others are not working properly. Quotes received were from $379.00to $300.00 each. The 2 weedeaters were purchased due tot the emergency need. Councilwoman Greene ratified the purchase of the weedeaters for PWD. Councilwoman Moss seconded, all favored, none opposed, motion carried. 4. Councilwoman Greene made a motion to extend the sidewalks at the park, seconded by Councilwoman Moss, all favored, none opposed, motion carried. Mayor Criswell reported that the $5,000.00 donation was received from LCAP.It was presented at the meeting Tuesday, 7/30/2019. Councilwoman Greene stated that the donation ist to be used on the parks. This $5,000.00 donation will be used to extend the sidewalks in the park. Sam Sanders will extend the explain the 2020 Census Program. asked him to introduce his staff attending tonight. (b) Allan Merriman - Career Tech Department sidewalk for $5,000.00. 2 08082019 5. SENIOR CITIZENS Major Holt is getting ready for Fall Soccer. We have a poster for the Soccer Teams on Councilwoman Moss reported that the Senior Center is doing good, as several new ones are coming to the Center each day for lunch FINANCE 3 08082019 Councilwoman Greene gave the financial report, giving a copy to the Council. POLICE Chief Kirkland is in Birmingham having an MRI. The Chief took care of some business Joan Stringfellow, a Creola resident, stated that she thought Councilman Walker was over the PD. Mayor Criswell explained that Councilman Walker is the liaison between with APOST in Montgomery on his way to Birmingham. the PD and the council. FIRE Jeff Reeves reported that the Squad 10 is in the repair shop. Will have final invoice for next meeting. We received the $15,000.00 grant from Mobile County Commission. We had general medical calls, 1 smoke detector call and had 1 vehicle accident, but driver walked away. The VFD has had 10 runs in August to date. Chief Reeves reported that driver training thru the State is coming up. STREETS/PUBLIC WORKS 08082019 4 Mayor Criswell reported that Wayne Miller has been cutting grass, weedeating culverts and working to release trapped water in the ditches to Crenshaw Park. BUILDING INSPECTOR Don Moss reported that the Dollar General is making great progress. Doing the foundation next week. Building should be here Monday. The RV and American Environmental are making progress, as well. We have received plans for new houses.
