MAGISTRATES Linda Hoiles Christie Bryant Minutes of the City of Creola Council Meeting Thursday, September 23, 2021 Creola Senior Center Meeting 6:00 P.M. The Council of the City of Creola, Alabama, met in the Creola Senior building at 5:30 p.m. A workshop was held before the Council Meeting. Present at the meeting was Mayor Nelson, Mark Items that were discussed were the American Rescue one time pay increase, 2021-2022 budget and audit, hiring of police officers and dispatchers, street sweeper, wrecked vehicle incident, updates on debris cleanup, Race Trac, and Mobile County Sheriff Department assistançce. Roland Hayes was present at the meeting and had questions on whether the Creola Scholarship fund was still available for those children who live in Creola but attended school in Satsuma. prayer by Bill Chambers. Item #5. -Approval of the Minutes- Approval of the Minutes - The minutes of the September 9, 2021, regular meeting minutes were reviewed. A motion was made by Mr. Howell to accept the minutes, as written. The motion was seconded by Mr. Hadaway. All in favor and the motion was carried. Item #6- Financials/BillList- Mayor Nelson went over the bill list as well and the city financials. Mr. Chambless made a motion to approve the bill list as presented. Mrs. Lynch seconded the motion. Item #7-1 Departmental Reports- Police Dept. ChiefHammond discussed the repairs for the wrecked' Tahoe. Mr. Howell made a motion to get the repairs done, based on the findings of the adjustor. Mr. Hadaway second the motion. All in Fire Dept. = Fire Chief Moye has been reaching out to different companies regarding the purchase ofai new fire truck as well as the financing ofit. Public Works Department - Still picking up storm debris. Item #8-New Business- a. American Rescue Act one time pay increase- Mayor presented Resolution 2021-0004 for the council to review and discuss a onetime pay increase for all essential workers. All full-time employees that have been employed for more than a year will receive $5,000.00 and part-time employees with more than a year $2,500.00. All other full-time and part- time employees with less than a year of employment will receive $2,500.00. Mr. Howell made a motion to approve Resolution 2021-004. Police and Dispatcher Hires - Chief Hammond has hired 2 new officers and 1 dispatcher. Once officer if a veteran of law enforcement with about 30 years of experience and the other will be attending the upcoming police academy beginning inj November. c.Street Sweeper- Mayor Nelson stated that we would have a street sweeper soon. d. Dispatchers and Officers- ChiefHammond stated that he will be hiring 2 dispatchers and at least 1 police officer. Item #9. - Mayors Comments a. We are getting ready to work on budget and mayor asked council and department heads to see what they need for the new fiscal year. b. Mayor is talking to EMA about the siren in Creola not working. Mr. Chambless made a motion that Marcy Brown, City Clerk, or Christie Bryant, Magistrate, add the council meetings and zoning minutes to be added to the city Facebook page. Mr. Discussion was made and after talking to Danny Mims, city attorney, until more information is gathered on the liability of the social media page, Mr. Howell made a motion to rescind the motion on posting the meeting minutes on our FB page.
