MAGISTRATES Linda Hoiles Christie Bryant Minutes of the City of Creola Council Meeting Thursday, June 8, 2023 Creola City Hall Meeting 6:00 P.M. The Council oft the City of Creola, Alabama, met in the Creola City Hall at 5:30 p.m. A workshop was held before the Council Meeting at 5:30 pm. Present at the meeting was Harold Parmer, Mark Howell, Wendy Lynch, and Mayor Nelson. Items that were discussed were the Board of Adjustment Appointment, Fire Chiefs Salary, 4th ofJuly Meeting, Building Insp. Vehicle, Sprinkler System, Fire Truck, Police Officer, Covid Funds, and Judge/Lawyer Raises. The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m. The regular council meeting was called to order by Mayor Don Nelson at 6:00 p.m. We were led inj prayer by Mayor Nelson. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor Don Nelson. Roll call was taken by City Clerk Marcy Brown. Present at the meeting was Mark Howell, Harold Parmer, Wendy Lynch, and Mayor Nelson. Kendal Hadaway and Cody Chambless were absent. City Item #5 -Approval of the Minutes = - The minutes of the May 25, 2023, regular meeting minutes were reviewed. Mr. Howell made a motion to accept the minutes as written. Mrs. Lynch Attorney Danny Mims was also present. seconded the motion. All ini favor and the motion was carried. Item #6- Financials/Bill List- favor and the motion was carried. Mayor Nelson gave an update on the finances and bank balances. Mr. Parmer made a motion to approve the bank balances as of 6/08/2023 as presented. Mrs. Lynch seconded the motion. All in Mr. Howell made a motion to approve the bill list as of 6/08/2023 as presented. Mr. Parmer seconded the motion. All in favor and the motion was carried. Item #7-1 Departmental Reports - Police Dept. = Chief Hammond presented a list of the necessary guns and ammo needed. He is still looking for officers and we did have 7 applicants that applied for the lieutenant position. Mr. Howell made a motion to approve the purchase of the guns ($6,745.67) as presented by Chief Hammond as long as they are either a Colt or Bush Master brand. Mr. Parmer seconded the motion. All in favor and the motion was carried. Sail Center. - No report given. Park Dept. - Soccer lights bids will be opened soon. Major Holt is almost finished with the sprinkler system for the Memorial. The benches and swings have arrived and will be assembled soon. Fire Dept. - Still in search ofa fire truck. Public Works Department - Cleaning ditches, cutting grass, and helping Major Holt work on Building Inspection Department - Still looking for a vehicle for the building inspector to drive. Zoning Board - Committee meeting held on June 8, 2023, to discuss the matter regarding the the Veterans Memorial. pending trailer park plan. Item #8 - New Business- a. Board of Adjustment Appointment - Mr. Howell made a motion to appoint James Brown to the Board of Adjustment. Mrs. Lynch seconded the motion. All in favor and the b. Judge/Attorney Raise - After a discussion, Mr. Howell made a motion to raise Judge Jay Ross' monthly pay to $1200 per month and add $100 to the Prosecutor and Defense Attorneys. Mrs. Lynch seconded the motion. All in favor and the motion was carried. 4tofJuly Meeting - Mayor Nelson stated that we may need to have one more meeting Raceway - Raceway willl have their grand opening and ribbon cutting on June 22, 2023. Item #9- Citizens to Address Council - Item #10-1 Mayors Comments - Mayor Nelson stated that the Covid money needed to be spent before the Federal Government decided to take back what was not spent. Mrs. Lynch also stated that the RR crossing at Dead Lake Road needed some maintenance work and the grass in the parking area needed to be removed. 2 Mr. Parmer made a motion to adjourn.
