MAGISTRATES Linda Hoiles Christie Bryant Minutes of the City of Creola Council Meeting Thursday, March 14, 2024 Creola City Hall Meeting 6:00 P.M. The regular council meeting was called to order by Mayor Don Nelson at 6:00 p.m. We were led Roll call was taken by City Clerk Marcy Brown. Present at the meeting was Cody Chambless, Wendy Lynch, Mark Howell, and Mayor Nelson. Council member Kendal Hadaway and Harold inj prayer by Carl Walker. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor Nelson. Parmar were absent. City Attorney Danny Mims was also present. Item #5 -Approval of the Minutes- The minutes of the February 22, 2024, meeting was reviewed. Mr. Howell made a motion to accept the minutes of February 22, 2024; Mrs. Lynch seconded the motion. All in favor and the motion was carried. Item #6- Financials/Bill List- The bills were discussed. Mr. Chambless made a motion to accept the bill list for March 14, 2024, as presented. Mrs. Lynch seconded the motion. All in favor and the motion was carried. The financials were discussed. If anyone would like to see the reports, they are welcome to stop by the city hall. Bank balances were presented. Mr. Howell made a motion to accept the financials as presented for March 14, 2024. Mrs. Lynch seconded the motion. All in favor and the motion was carried. Item #7 - Departmental Reports - Police Dept.- Chief Stringer introduced our newest officer, Jonathan Pitts. The Chief also stated that he would be asking for radars to equip all the vehiçles in the near future. The Chief has requested three (3) more computers from the 911 system. 320 Calls Traffic Accidents -13 Traffic Stops - 106 Traffic Citations -5 53 Arrests -31 Warrants - 64 Officer Wickell helped an older gentleman who was disoriented from the Birmingham area. Officer Wickell got him help and got in touch with his family. We need to present Officer Wickell with aj plaque recognizing his efforts in what he did. Officer Jeffery Boddie starts March 25, 2024.0 Fire Dept. - Chief Stanley stated that he would like to add Branden Lynch as the newest Mr. Howell made a motion to add Randall Lynch as the newest fire member. There is also an Public Works Department - Mr. Sellberg stated that he was busy keeping the trash picked up and mowing season had begun. David Hollowell, with ALDOT, stated that Highway 43 was cut by the state 2-3 times per year. This usually occurs in June and September. Mr. Parmer has repaired one of the zero turn mowers. Item #8-New Business- a. Ordinance 2024-001 Pay Rate for the 2025-2029 Officials- Mr. Hadaway and Mr. Parmer introduced Ordinance 2024-001 at the February 22, 2024, meeting, which would raise the wages for the next administration beginning November 2025. 2 Roll Call: Mr. Hadaway - Absent; Mr. Chambless - Yes; Mrs. Lynch - Yes; Mr. Parmer - Absent; Mr. Howell - Yes; Mayor Nelson - Yes. Motion was carried 4-0. b. Soccer Lighting - The official lighting of the new soccer will be at 7:00 p.m. March 26, 2024. We also have aj presentation for Major Holt for all he has done for the park. Sutton Property The Sutton property located across the road from the police department is for sale. Mayor Nelson would like to purchase the property for future Mr. Howell made a motion to allow Mayor Nelson to negotiate the purchase deal in the amount of $35,000 on the Sutton property. Mrs. Lynch seconded the motion. All in favor d. Demo Sutton House - Mayor Nelson has found someone to demo the Sutton house for around $5,000. Due to an illness, the gentleman will be contacted later. Police Department Roof = Mr. M.L.
