Work Session Minutes of the City Council 281 James D. Nabors Drive ALEXANDER CITY ALABAMA Council Chambers in the Municipal Complex Monday, June 17, 2024 Meeting at 4:30 p.m. The City Council of the City of Alexander City held a work session on Monday,June 17, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Municipal Complex, 281 James D. Nabors Drive, Alexander City, AL35010. Councilor Eric Brown was recorded as being absent. Councilor Brown arrived at 4:31 p.m. The meeting was called to order by Council President Colvin. The invocation was led by Council President Colvin, and Councilor Chris Brown led the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag. Those present included Mayor Baird, Romy Stamps, Finance Director; Piper Barnett, Administrative Assistant; Fire ChiefMcAlister; Police Captain Tuck; Drew Meacham, Public Works Director; Lynn Miller, Water Superintendent; Joe Milam, IT Director; Christy Clayton, IT Department; Chris Hardy, Gas Superintendent; Amanda Thomas, Planning and Development Director; John McWhorter, Sewer Director. Others present included: Arlene Wyckoff, Tony Harris, Steve Harris, and Stephanie & Brett Phillips. The media was represented by the Outlook. NEW BUSINESS DISCUSSION: Kasey Kaschak gave an update on the Imagination Station. A ground breaking is planned for July 26th, He as applied for a second grant and has been awarded for a playground at Sixth Street Park. The pool at Cooper Rec is having multiple issues but they are working hard in getting it ready to open. Amanda Thomas gave an update to include the ongoing Comprehensive Plan, with the Planning Commission, Steering Committee and Historic Preservation Committee holding a Work Session onJuly gth to meet with the consultants; the Building Department has processed 396 permits with contracts totaling $53,973,048.52, producing $535,883.69 in revenue. The vacancy in the Building Department has been offered to a candidate and she plans to start on June 8th. They have received the performance bonds for the downtown buildings and the contractor is closing out anotherj job and plans to be here soon. They are working with East. Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission in applying for various grants. PLLi is being used while still entering in the old way while working through the process. Councilor Tapley made a motion to adjourn, Council President Pro Tempore Hardy seconded the motion.
