Halifax County Electoral Board April 16, 2024 Thel Halifax County Electoral Board met on April 16, 2024 in the Registrar's office in Halifax, Virginia. The meeting was called to order at 11:35 a.m. by the Chair, Paul Smith, with all members present. There was no public comment. The chair called for the minutes from the previous meeting. The minutes from the previous meeting on February 21, 2024 were read and approved. Vice Chair Matthew Cunningham motioned to approve the minutes as read and Chairman Paul Smith seconded. The motion passed. The chair called for old business. There was some discussion on the American Legion Post 99 letter that was mailed to the Board by Mr. Frank Carr, Commander requesting compensation for the use of the building for January 12th and 13th for the Special Election and March 4th and 5th, 2024 for the Primary Election. This was not listed in the original contract and the Chair Paul Smith stated that he will talk with Mr. Carr to clarify the dates. Paul Smith also stated that he will visit Sinai School to look at an outside mobile unit for a potential voting precinct. The Registrar informed the board that the new voting equipment should be delivered on today, and the June Dual Primary will be held on June 18, 2024. The Registrar also stated that the June Election will be held on June 18, 2024 and the Juneteenth Holiday is June 19, 2024. Vice Chair Matthew Cunningham motioned to begin the Canvass on the 19th of June regardless. Secretary Ellen Kent seconded and the motion passed. Early Voting for the June Primary will begin on May 3, 2024. The other new business was scheduling the dates for the training of election workers for the June 18, 2024 Primary Election. The dates scheduled are as follows: June 3, 4 and 5, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectfully and June gth at 10:00 a.m. The list of election officers should be completed and given to the Registrar by May 13, 2024. With no more business to discuss, Vice Chairman Matthew Cunningham motioned to adjourn the meeting and Chairman Paul Smith seconded.
