REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING CITY OF COLUMBIANA, ALABAMA May 7,2024 The City Council of the City of Columbiana, Alabama met in a Regular Session in the Council Chambers of Columbiana City Hall at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. Mayor David Mitchell called the meeting to order and asked City Clerk, Charlene Tucker, to call roll after the invocation and pledge. Present: Council Member Karen Lilly Council Member Vickie Mizzell Council Member Ricky Ruston Council Member Kim King Mayor David Mitchell Absent: Council Member Ashley Phillips The Mayor declared that a quorum was present. Consent Agenda A. Approval of! Minutes 4-16-24 Regular Council Meeting B. Approval of Minutes 4-30-24 Special Called Council Meeting There being no changes or amendments to the minutes, the Mayor declared the minutes approved. Department Head Reports Fire - Mayor Mitchell reported the following: There has been no lost time injuries. Budget is tracking to plan. No issues with facilities. Admin vehicles are in service. Routine maintenance on apparatus is ongoing. EMS training is complete. Safer Grant: The mayor is getting with Johnny Howard and Brett Ashworth about the grant. AFG grant not awarded. Acquisition of new pumper truck postponed. Library - Jennifer Combs reported the following: No safety issues. Budget is good. Staffing looks good. We had an estimate of 1395 visitors for the month of April. We provided $50,667.00 worth of services in the month of April. That is up from last year. We released our butterflies on Friday. We had 12 people for the release. We are gearing up for Summer Reading. The theme is Adventure at the Library. Our kick-off event is picking out a reading passport and decorating their own keepsake boxes. This is June 3rdat2 2:00 pm. Environmental - Dale Lucas reported the following: Noi injuries during this fiscal year. We are still advertising for a Grade II Operator. Sewer lines are ini fair condition. No change in compliance. We are getting ready to start our 2024 training. Budget is ok. Treatment plant bid was significantly over budget. Engineer is modifying plans. Community Affairs & Senior Services = Ali Payne reported the following: Lots ofu upcoming events. Senior Center going on trips. Sunset Music and Market (Music on Main and the Farmers Market) starting June 7. Board Reports The Library Board met and discussed legislation regarding libraries, the summer reading program The Beautification Board has planted flowers in all the beds on Main Street and are watering them every morning. Saturday, June 22 is clean up day. The new banners are going up on Main Street. and library policies. These were purchased by the Beautification Board and Main Street. Discussion - Other City Business Council Member Ruston received a call from a business about the power blinking on Main Street during the day. The Mayor is going to reach out to the city's contact at. Alabama Power fora solution.
