Mayor Sheffy called the meeting to order at6 6:33 p.m. Item No. 2. Consider and approve the minutes from] March 18,2024 regular meeting and special meeting Mayor Sheffy indicated that the council members had previously received andi reviewed the minutes from thel March 18, 20241 regular meeting and March 20, 2024 special meeting. Council member John Nino madea ai motion to approvet the minutes from thel March 18,2024 regular meeting. Council member Chad Okamoto seconded. The motion was voted on and passed unanimously. Council member Steve Buckley made a motion to approvet the minutes from thel March 20,2024 special meeting. Council member Chad Council member Gloria Hernandez spoke on behalf oft the Castro County Hispanic Heritage Association. Mayor Sheffy reviewed the financial statements with the council members and City Manager Daniel Item No. 5. Discuss and consider action to approve the purchase ofal Pierce-Custom Saber FRI Pumper for thel Dimmitt Firel Department from Siddons-Martin Emergency Group, LLC with assistance: from Mayor Sheffy called on) Dimmitt VFD Chief Corey Lane to address the council. Mayor Sheffy and City Council did have al bid for review from Siddons-Martin Emergency Group for thei new: fire engine int the amount of $838,519.25. Chief Lane spoke ont the need to replace the maini fire engine that the city hasl had for 30 years. The cost tor replace the engine has gone up atl least by 30% int the last few years. Fire Chief Lane said! having the new engine will possibly help with the L.S.O. ratings. This would possibly help loweri insurance: rates for homeowners in) Dimmitt. He also reported it willt take upt to3 3 years to build this engine. Fire ChiefLane said the new engine will come with thel N.F.P.A. requirements, but it will require af few extras to be purchased. For example, ladders, hoses, etc. Fire ChiefI Lane also said that VFD would liket tol keept the older engine as al backup. City Manager Daniel Jackson advised the councilt that the bid received from Siddons-Martin came through thel Houston Galvaston Area Council (H.G.A.C.) purchasing cooperative. Mr. Jackson explained that this meant the procurement requirements had been met and that there was a significant discount shown ont the bid, as well as the HGACBuy contract number. Mr. Jackson said thati ifa approved, the remaining $374,685.22 of A.R.P.A. funds would be obligated to this purchase, significantly lowering the cost for the City. Councill Member Stevel Buckley made a motiont to approve the purchase ofal Pierce-Custom Saber FRI Pumper for the Dimmitt Fire Department with assistance from remaining A.R.P.A. funds. Council member. John Nino second the motion. The motion was voted on. Council Members Steve Buckley, John Nino, Gloria Hernandez, and Sergiol Navarro votedf for approval. Council Members Chad Okamoto and] Dewayne Espinosa abstained. The motion passed. March 20,2024. Okamoto seconded. The motion was voted on and passed unanimously. Item No.3. Hear public comments. She discussed the organization wouldl like work on cleaning the parks. Item No.4 4. Discussion of current financials. Jackson. Mayor Sheffy said the financials are doing well. remaining A.R.P.A. funds. 984 Item No. 6. City Manager's Report. Mayor Sheffy called on City Manager Daniel Jackson for his report. Mr. Jackson reported that we filled the open position at the landfill. We nowl have only onel Public Works position open. Mr. Jackson also reported that Lt. Elmore from the Policel Department had visited ai few academies tor recruit. Lt. Elmore handed out his cardt toai few interested recruits. Mr.. Jackson also reported that wel had an airport inspection today. As wel know, our runway andt taxiways need al lot ofv work. Mr. Jackson said he explained tot the inspector that wea are currently pursuing grantf funding from TXDOT. Aviation to completely reconstruct our runway. Item No.7 Adjourn.
