(See Grant Application enclosed The enclosed grant application was previously distributed to Council for consensus approval to submit application prior to deadline in December, 2014. The project narrative and description contained in the grant application gives the details and nuts/bolts of justification. If the City is fortunate enough to receive this grant, it will be a great opportunity to partner with the State and other Yadkin-Pee Dee lakes neighbors to help grow an underutilized component of our local economy within a regional framework. In 2013, tourism activities in Richmond County generated 44.2 million dollars in revenues representing a 4.51% increase over 2012. In fact, these tourism revenues have increased every year since 2002, with the exception of decreases in 2008 and 2009, which occurred during the latest recession. There are over 400 jobs in Richmond County that directly relate to tourism and travel, generating over 7.61 million dollars in payroll in 2013. State 3ral tax revenues in 2013 associated with 514 Rockingham Road, Rockingham, NC. 28379. In 2012, Richmond County ranked 69th out of 100 counties in per capita revenues from tourism, and 62th in total revenue and those rankings remained unchanged in 2013. All this data is provided by the NC Division of Tourism, Film and Sports Development. Iwant to stress that tourism is only one component of the local economy but as reflected in the data there is a significant opportunity to grow this portion of our economy to create jobs and tax growth, particularly in the areas of motorsports, agri-tourism and outdoor recreation. The city and county needs to continue to emphasize attracting job growth in manufacturing and industrial sectors and efforts to grow other sectors of our economy such as tourism should not be interpreted in a way that diminishes the priority of attracting manufacturing and industrial sector job growth. 4- Rockingham, NC City Council Agenda SUPPORT DOCUMENTS 8 a - 2 6- UNCOLLECTED TAXES YEAR 2014 2013 2012 2011 2010 2009 2008 2007 2006 2005 2004 AMOUNT 714,223.08 37,693.24 26,099.71 21,778.53 17,082.88 13,229.58 10,531.55 6,238.76 4,844.46 4,354.05 3,281.09 December 2014 714,223.08 145,133.85 859,356.93 Total Current Year Total Past Years Total All Years -7- a 5 d0 8 8 0 8 0 0 o a 5 3 00 6 6 8888 2 - 9 9 3 B 00 - -10- ROCKINGHAM A - CITY LOOKING FORWARD RESOLUTION Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. WHEREAS, the United States Congress, the North Carolina General Assembly and the Richmond County Commissioners have proclaimed January 19, 2015 as a legal holiday to commemorate the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and WHEREAS, the King Holiday is set aside as a day for peace and civil WHEREAS, Dr. King showed courage, endurance and patience in the unity and building of understanding between races and cultures; and face of hostility, criticism and adversity working to promote freedom, justice and peace; and WHEREAS, the local Steering Committee is holding a celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King using the theme AW/AKENING..-.
