Budget Amendment: Ordinance 1070 for New Heat Pump/Furnace Town Planner Sam Cullen explained the Bid for the new heat pump/furnace was approved at the last Board of Aldermen meeting. He said there would need to be a vote to approve Budget Amendment Ordinance 1070 allowing $3000 to be taken out of M&R Building and $8500 from the Fund Balance. The work has been completed and the contractors will need to be paid. A motion was made by Alderman. Jim Owens to approve Budget. Amendment Ordinance #1070 int the amount of $11,747fori the Heat Pump. The. motion carried unanimously. Award bid for Sweet Briar Parkinglot Mr. Cullen said the Town has received bids from WNC Paving and Custom Paving. Staff recommends going with Custom Paving's bid for $231,000. Town ofl Maggie Valley February 6, 2024 Board of Aldermen Regularly Scheduled (Agenda Setting) Meeting Mayor Eveland asked Mr. Cullen to send information out on the sunshine list and on face book Mr. Mehaffey said the bid does not include landscaping and EV charging stations. He said the Town will be looking at different ways to do the landscaping. The Town will be putting the underground lines in for the EV chargers. He said Mr. Cullen is working on trying to get a grant for the chargers. Mr. Cullen said if the bid is awarded at this meeting, the Budget Amendment Amotion was made by Alderman. Sweet Briar Parking Lot. The motion carried unanimously. Award bid for the New Roof Mr. Mehaffey said the Town received three bids for the new roof. The bids ranged from $80,000 to $115,000. After speaking with all three companies, he recommends going with Consolidated Roofing's bid of $94,889 which will include hauling off the old shingles. Alderman Tim Wise to discuss grant funding fori tems/mprovements Alderman Wise said there had been several projects that had been discussed before he became Alderman about improvements to Town properties. He spoke about WNC Enhancement Grants that would help with some of these projects. He has spoken with Town Manager Vickie Best about projects and together they have compiled a list. Patio. There was much discussion between Board members about the cost oft the projects and types of grants that have been awarded throughout the county. Town of Maggie Valley February 6, 2024 Board of Aldermen Regularly Scheduled (Agenda Setting) Meeting New Roundabout Mr. Cullen said staff had a meeting with NCDOT about the new roundabout going in the intersection of Soco Road and Highway 276. He reviewed a map of the proposed project with Board members and said in 2018, the Town of Maggie Valley signed an agreement with NCDOT to share the cost. The Town will be responsible for five percent of the cost of a portion of the sidewalks, which is estimated to be around $7800, due upon completion of the project. Mr. Cullen said the lighting is not included ini the plans for the roundabout. Mr. Mehaffey answered questions from the Board on the Roundabout project. Appointment of Planning Board Members Planner Cullen said Jim Heffron has resigned from the Planning Board and there are now two positions to fill. The remainder of the applicants will be interviewed before the Board of Aldermen meeting on February 13, 2024. He said if Jared Lee is chosen for the planning board the Board will need to appoint two members to the Planning Board. Mayor Eveland welcomed Applicant Jared Lee and asked for him tol begin by telling the Board Jared Lee said he has lived in Maggie for about thirteen years and is passionate about the care for the community. He said as for growth, he does not have all the answers. He works in a retail shop during the winter months and deals with al lot oft tourists. He said in the: summer months he gets to speak with a lot of locals about different subjects that come up around Maggie. He has Mayor Eveland thanked Mr. Lee for his years of service that were spent on the Planning and Alderman Jim Owens stated he has had multiple conversations with Mr. Lee over the past few years and he knows where his heart is and knows that he loves Maggie Valley.
