Minutes Statham Tree Committee September 24, 2019 6pm 1. Call to Order Dwight McCormick called the committee to order at 6:08pm Community members in attendance were Jessica Crook, Gary" Venable, Tim and Sandy Terilli, Susan Buffington-Martin, Joe Piper, Wade Casto, Christine Bogenrieder 2. Old Business Minutes from the last Statham Tree Committee meeting were provided for everyone to read. Dwight made a suggested that we approve the minutes from the September 10, 2019 meeting. Wade made a motion to approve them and Christine seconded. New Business 3. Discuss the City Council meeting items The mayor said that the stumps would be removed and the price to do sO would be covered. The waiver was discussed at the City Council meeting. We asked the City to move the release (the last sentence on the waiver) on the Tree Removal Easement Form. The Mayor said they would use contractors from now on for any major tree removal and that the contractors insurance would cover what we are asking to be removed from the easement clause. The City asked Gary to get back on the agenda for the next City Council meeting to take a formal vote to They will be going back and removing the stumps that are still left. remove this clause. 4. Bring back details of speaking to respective homeowners the folks in the home. Dwight chose a Tulip Poplar to go backi in it's place. 1975 Broad Street definitely wants at tree planted. Probably be an oak tree. 1943 Broad Street definitely wants at tree planted. One, maybe two will fit here. 2021 Broad Street would be okay with a new tree and preferably an Oak. 1957 Broad Street definitely wants ai tree planted. Either an Oak or Maple. 1989 Broad Street did not make contact - not home. 1907 Broad Street the stump is ground and there is mulch there, but no contact was made with 1995 Broad Street does not want ai tree planted. 1885 Broad Street would like a tree. struggling from the heat and lack of rain. Cricket's tree was discussed and the maintenance thereafter. The tree that we planted earlier is Jessica will speak to Mr. Cronic when possible to see if he would like a tree in front of his home. 5. Discuss the purchase, preparation and planting for fall Wade spoke to. Jack's Creek Tree Farm. 2" trees are $125 and 3" trees are $250. Maple, 2or 3 Oak varieties. We will focus on the larger trees first. Trees will hopefully be planted in November. Dwight suggests that we start a purchase plan. Wade states that we can purchase the trees ahead of time and store them at Casto's until we are able to plant them. Joe suggests that we consider a Sycamore tree to plant. Christine suggests that instead of al bunch of different species, we just have two or three different ones that we plant all over. 6. Gary will be on the next Council Meeting to discuss... Bring up the waiver and ask that the last line be removed. Gary will get Sam the stump grinding list. Ask fori it to be in writing that contractors will be licensed, bonded and insured. Discuss maintenance oft the trees that we willl be planting. Wade Casto would be willing to donate a large tank (275 gallon) for the back of a truck for the tree committee. Adding the Green Space Committee to the Statham Tree Committee Dwight makes a suggestion that since we saved the two large trees on Jefferson Street, that we move those funds towards taking down the tree at Dutch's home at 1944 Broad Street. This tree is on City property and is causing damage to the roof of the home, as well as hanging over the powerline and is posing a threat to the powerline. A suggestion is made to contact the power company to see if they would remove the tree. The Forrestry Commission said that this tree was 50-50. Dwight suggests someone from the Tree Committee calls Georgia Power to discuss the removal oft the tree. Christine Bogenrieder volunteers to call on behalf of the Statham Tree Committee and the City. If the power company will not take the tree down, Gary will bring this up at the next Council Meeting. 7. Green Space Tim suggests that we add in green space care to the Tree Committee's scope. Care of flower beds, trees and green space - beauification". The Tree Committee will take this under it's wing instead of forming a second committee /have a second meeting for this. We will ask the Mayor if there is anyone on a Green Space committee and ifiti is okay to merge them. Dwight states that we will vote on our mission at the next meeting and determine our long term goals. 8. Agenda for Next Meeting Next Tree Committee Meeting will be held on Monday, October 14th, 2019 at 6pm. a) Vote on our mission/long term goal for the Statham Tree Commitee/Green b) Finalize the list oft trees that we will get. Get the purchase orders and get Space Committee prepared for the final purchase. Dwight makes a motion to adjourn at 7:04, Gary seconds, unanimous.
