The meeting was called to order by Mike Cole, Chair. All members voted yes; motion carried. Approve the agenda. Motion by Lewis DeWeese, seconded by Terry Bramlett, to approve the consent agenda. Approve the Board meeting minutes from April 11,2024 at 5:30 p.m. Superintendent Shannon Dillard recognized the following: Class of 2024 Salutatorian Sydney Chancey and Valedictorian Peyton Nelson. District Teachers of the Year for 2026 (TOTY): Capprice Ramsey, Blue Ridge Elementary School; Kaylor Majors, East Fannin Elementary School; Christy Brogden, West Fannin Elementary School; Jill Abercrombie, Fannin County Middle School; and Christie Rose, Fannin County High School. The District TOTY winner will be announced on May 14, 2024. Fannin County Middle School Baseball Team won the 2024 Mountain League Championship. Fannin County High School Band received All-District Honor Band and straight Superior Ratings during the GMEA Concert Assessment competition. Fannin Middle School had two students perform with the GMEA District 9 North District Honor Band. Director of Curriculum & Instruction Heather Collis shared an update regarding the recent Fannin County Middle School principal Dr. April Hodges presented school happenings to the Fine Arts Department placed 3rd in the state with an argumentative essay. activities ofe each School Governance Team (SGT). Superintendent's Comments: Superintendent Shannon Dillard talked about celebrating all the employees simultaneously for "We are Fannin Week." Ms. Dillard said decisions were made that not everyone could agree on, but that decisions are always made with the best intent and based on the information at hand. She said she appreciated everyone who wears a name tag and works for the Fannin County School System. Ms. Dillard said prom was a success, and graduation will have occurred by the next meeting, requiring many people's hard work. She gave a shout-out to Brady Smith, who received the state's Most Positive Adapted Sports Athlete Award. She congratulated the winners oft the bus rodeo and Dr. Hodges for a great presentation. Ms. Dillard said, "Wearel Fannin, We are. Blessed!" Chad Galloway thanked everyone attending the meeting and online. He said it was great to see all the students and theiraccomplishments: Mr. Galloway congratulated all the Teacher ofthe Year nominees and said hel looked forward tot the celebration on May 14th, when the winner is announced. He said he was excited for the track team and wished them good luck competing. Mr. Galloway also thanked his daughter for attending the meeting and supporting the school system. He Lewis DeWeese thanked the people who came out for public comment. He said hel knew it wasn't easy to attend the meeting and speak in front of others, but he believes that is how change begins. Terry Bramlett thanked everyone who attended the meeting. He thanked Dr. Hodges for the updates on the middle school and Mrs. Williams for all her work with the nutrition department. Mr. Bramlett told Susan Wynn her presentation was exceptional and congratulated the nominees fort teacher oft the year. Hei recognized and congratulated all the children for theira accomplishments. Bobby Bearden congratulated the middle school baseball team and the teacher of the year nominees. Mr. Bearden said all teachers are #1. He said he was thankful the school system could provide free breakfast and grateful to: now do breakfast and lunch. Mr. Bearden said he would give his phone number out to anyone who wanted to talk to him, and he said he felt like all board members, including Ms. Dillard, had the best interest of the children when decisions are being made. Mr. Bearden said that he didn'thave an agenda and that kids are his agenda. He thanked all Mike Cole thanked Martha Williams for her presentation and for explaining the free breakfast and lunch program. He told Dr. Hodges that her presentation was sO good that he could see her vision for the middle school. Mr. Cole also thanked the principals, teachers, and Tony Sirianni, SRO, for concluded his remarks by stating, "God bless you all."
