ABBREVIATED MINUTES CITY OF BRADENTON TREE & LAND PRESERVATION BOARD SPECIAL MEETING 11:00 A.M. FRIDAY, February 23, 2024 City Hall Council Chambers, 101 Old Main Street PRESENT Tree and Land Preservation Board Members: Edward Dean - Chair, Jennifer Hoffman - Vice Chair, Alyssa Vinson, Ruth Lawler, Lauren Aristizabal. City Staff: Jamie Schindewol-Senior Planner, Lori Brunner-Planning and Community Development Administrative Assistant. SPECIAL MEETING Pledge of Allegiance. Call to Order: by Ed Dean at 11:02 a.m. Move to Approve: Minutes from November 17, 2023 and December 15, 2023 by Ed Dean and seconded by Richard Larsen. All approved as written. Public Comment: None Election of Officers: Motion to move the elections to the beginning of the meeting made by Jennifer Hoffman and seconded by Ruth Lawler. Motion to elect Jennifer Hoffman as Chair made by Jennifer Hoffman and Motion to elect Lauren Aristizabal as Vice-Chair made by Ed Dean and seconded by Ed Dean. seconded by Alyssa Vinson. Discussion of Arbor Day Event: Jamie Schindewolf passed out the list of trees given to her by the Arbor Day Foundation. Jennifer Hoffman brought up the cost of the trees and the amounts spent per tree. The Arbor Day Foundation provides information about the trees, including the best place to plant trees. This Board has not ever seen this information. Tree giveaways were discussed and compared to what has happened in the past, as well as advertising and marketing for all The selection of trees for all events took place. Earth Day is April 20, 2024, and Arbor Day is April 26, 2024. A list of chosen trees was given to Ms. Schindewolf for each event, and the giveaway was discussed. Marketing and mailers were discussed for all events, as well as dates for the events. flyers and purchases. Motion to approve $500.00 to spend on flyers was made by Alyssa Vinson Ed Dean asked about backup giveaway ideas for trees that are not given away. Ms. Hoffman mentioned different ways that this can take place and and seconded by Ed Dean. can be discussed at a later date, after the events. Discussions: Tamra Melton, City Clerk, discussed Volunteer Board Policies and a mandatory training that will take place on March 11, 2024 at 2:00 in the Council Chambers. It will be partly about records and the Sunshine Law. Ms. Schindewolf showed marketing materials that were received from the Ms. Hoffman brought in the "Notable Tree 2023" tree plaque. It was donated by Don Ides, from the Trophy Case, to Keep Manatee Beautiful for Staff will arrange for it to be hung in the hallway by the other plaques.
