ANNOUNCEMENTS/COMMITTEE REPORTSICOUNCIL REPORTS Mayor Khan Mayor Khan provided a brief report related to a City delegation she led to Tsukuba, Japan, and Taoyuan, Taiwan, from May 8 14, 2024 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Irvine-Tsukuba Sister City relationship. While in Japan and Taiwan, staff coordinated meetings with elected officials and industry leaders. The visit also included topics such as environmental and sustainable programs, incubators fori echnology-Dased start-ups, and a meeting with the President oft the University of Tsukuba. The delegation also spent time with the Life Vitality Association, a Taoyuan non-profit that promotes the health and well-being of people ofall abilities and ages through cycling. Mayor Khan had welcomed the Life Vitality Association to Irvine this February as part of their International Accessible Mayor Khan recently hosted a panel and networking program on Generative Artificial Intelligence to inform and equip the business community, and was joined by the following panelists: Visionet executives Dr. Tariq Khan and Ameen Ahmad, and Roger Lloyd of Orange County Inland Empire Small Business Development Mayor Khan congratulated the Cool Irvine High School Green Challenge winners Danbi Lee, Annabella Luo and Ainoush Sharabyani, Woodbridge High School (WHS) students and members of the WHS Sustainable Agriculture Club. To win the Green Challenge, these students worked together to complete 65 actions toward sustainability, which saved approximately eight tons of carbon dioxide. Mayor Khan's staff will be collecting donations at the Lakeview Senior Center parking lot on Saturday, June 8, from 12 to 1 p.m. as part of the annual baby gift drive for the Irvine 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee. Preferred donations include new or gently used baby clothes, swaddle blankets, strollers, car seats, and newborn toiletries. Prepared by the City Clerk's Office 2 City Council Minutes May 28. 2024 Irvine's parks have again been ranked as the best in California and fourth best in the nation by the Trust for Public Land, whose ParkScore Index is the most comprehensive evaluation of park access and quality in the 100 largest cities in America. This is the ninth consecutive year that the City's park system has ranked among the top 10. The ParkScore Index looked at park access and equity and found that 93% of Irvine residents live within a half-mile walk of a park. Irvine also earned a perfect score fori investment. The Irvine Fine Arts Center will hold its 30th Annual Studio Arts Festival on Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Heritage Community Park, which will showcase more than 100 local artists and their handmade, original works of art for purchase including hand-blown glass, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, painting, photography, and more.
