Jr., Cristy Lenski, and Gretchen Schulz. (Council Member Kerry Hetherington was absent.) Also present City Manager Matthew Pepper, Assistant City Manager Mercy Montgomery, Parks and Recreation Director Lisa Platt, Chief of Police Greg Perry, Public Information Officer Brian Arrington and City Clerk Melisa Arnold. Amy Bell with Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) arrived at 6:50 p.m. CALL TO ORDER DISCUSSIONI ITEMS Mayor Bender called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m. Discussion about the Community Center with Goodwyn Mills Cawood [Bender] City Manager Pepper explained that due to both inflation of construction materials cost in the market as well as the additional service work oft the design of the T.W. Briscoe Park Community and Recreation Center along with the proposed outdoor basketball and pickle ball courts, additional tennis courts, and the required parking facilities the cost is approximately $23 million dollars. which is above the original estimated budget for the project of$12 to $13 million dollars. Mayor Bender talked about the Georgia Municipal Association's Bricks and Mortar plan that would allow the City to finance some of the cost of the building. Consensus was that the $10 Mayor, Council, Staff, and Ms. Bell held discussions on the best way to cut costs and downsize the Community Center. As currently designed, the Center would house two (2) basketball courts, an indoor walking track, an outdoor pavilion, three (3) multi-purpose activity rooms, and one (1) large community room. Discussion was held on constructing a smaller building that could be expanded in the future. Mayor Bender and Parks Director Platt suggested focusing on the multi- purpose activities rooms and utilizing the old library as a community room and rental facility. This would help create smaller footprint and help reduce the cost of the Center.
